El 1833, Ferran VII moria sense descend\u00e8ncia masculina. Abans de morir va abolir \u00abla Llei S\u00e0lica\u00bb per permetre que la seva filla de tres anys es convert\u00eds en Isabel II, reina d\u2019Espanya. El seu germ\u00e0, l\u2019infant Carles, quedava fora de la l\u00ednia success\u00f2ria. Nom\u00e9s tres dies despr\u00e9s de la mort de Ferran VII, Carles s\u2019autoproclama rei d\u2019Espanya, la qual cosa inicia les Guerres Carlines. <\/p>\n

Aquestes conteses van jalonar el segle XIX. Aix\u00ed, en el context de la II Guerra Carlina (1872-1876), una granada, llan\u00e7ada pels carlins, va caure a l\u2019ajuntament. El projectil va impactar contra un polvor\u00ed improvisat, que va fer saltar per l\u2019aire gaireb\u00e9 tot l\u2019edifici i va deixar alguns morts i ferits. <\/p>\n
